Resume for Whitham D. Reeve

 

Summary:

Whitham D. Reeve formed Reeve Engineers in 1978 and retired the business in 2008.  He was a registered professional engineer in Alaska, Hawaii, Washington, Alberta and Yukon Territory and the author of dozens of books and articles on the practical aspects of telecommunications engineering. Starting in 2008, he designs and builds instrumentation for radio astronomy with an emphasis on radio science and space weather; he operates and maintains radio observatories in Anchorage, Cohoe and Gakona, Alaska USA. Mr. Reeve was born in Anchorage, Alaska and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) and Master of Electrical Engineering (MEE) degree from the University of Alaska Fairbanks with an emphasis on advanced communications engineering and engineering management. Mr. Reeve was the editor of the IEEE Press Telecommunications Handbook Series and a former member of IEEE Press editorial board. He presently is Contributing Editor for Radio Astronomy, the journal of the Society of Amateur Radio Astronomers.

 

Experience:

 

2008 to present – Owner, Whitham D. Reeve

Design and manufacture of radio and electronic instrumentation for radio science and space weather research including solar radio spectrometer (e-Callisto) and accessories, Long Wavelength Array (LWA) antenna accessories, Murchison Widefield Array (MWA) antenna accessories, and geomagnetometer (SAM-III) and accessories. Past member of board of directors for Society of Amateur Radio Astronomers and past editor of Radio Astronomy; presently contributing editor of Radio Astronomy.

 

1978 to 2008 - President, Reeve Engineers

Telecommunications engineering services to telecommunications public carriers and telecommunications equipment manufacturers; work included network switching and transmission systems, ac and dc power supply systems, telecommunications grounding system design and testing, metallic and fiber optic transmission systems, radio transmission systems including point-to-point microwave, trunked and cellular wireless systems, Signaling System No. 7, outside plant cable design, construction management and testing, network and system planning, engineering audits, tariffs, continuing property records, and central office construction and configuration management. Special expertise in application of telecommunication systems in arctic and sub-arctic environments. Developed and delivered training courses in digital and analog transmission engineering and testing.  Forensic engineering including National Electrical Code, National Electrical Safety Code, and aircraft electrical and electronic systems.

 

1973 to 1978 - Anchorage Telephone Utility

Progressively responsible positions in transmission and protection engineering, central office engineering including switching, power and transmission systems, and utility planning. Positions held - Transmission and Protection Engineer, Electronic Systems Superintendent, Manager - Utility Planning.

 

1964 to 1973 - Reeve Aleutian Airways, Inc.

Progressively responsible positions in avionics, aircraft electrical systems and communications system design, ground-based communications and navigation systems, installation, maintenance and certification. Positions held - Avionics Technician, Director of Avionics.
