National Weather Service Forecast Office Mesonet for Anchorage, AK
(weather data for this location shown as "West Turnagain")

Weather station location: N61° 11' 57.14" : W149° 57' 23.77"

This location has had a weather station since 1998 but was upgraded in 2008 to a Davis Instruments Wireless Vantage Pro2™ Integrated Sensor Suite (p/n 06152) with the following sensors:

  • Barometric pressure
  • Temperature
  • Humidity
  • Rainfall
  • Wind speed and direction

The sensors are approximately 11 m AGL and site elevation is approximately 17 m AMSL.  Wind direction is oriented with True North reference.

Weather station data is transmitted to a Davis Instruments Wireless Weather Envoy™ receiver (p/n 06316) with a WeatherLinkIP™ data logger (p/n 06555).  A PC running WeatherLink™ software controls weather data uploads at 15 minute intervals to the 1st  link referenced above and at 10 minute intervals to the 2nd and 3rd links referenced above.  The National Weather Service (4th link) pulls the data from the 3rd link.

The wireless station link operates in the 900 MHz license-free ISM band and uses frequency-hopping, spread-spectrum technology.  The sensor suite is powered by a small photovoltaic panel with lithium battery backup.
